we hate litterbugs

lately there seems to be an excess amount of broken glass in the area … sidewalks, trails, and, it seems, even in the Grand River.  there have been times, when using a neighborhood “pass-through”, where the broken bottles smashed for ‘fun’ overnight riddle the sidewalk and the grass to such an extent that there is no safe passage for  dogs or bikes.  times like this, the dogs and i have had to tack on an extra 15 or 20 minutes to our walk just to avoid it.  and i like to think i live in a pretty decent neighborhood!

well, while enjoying a swim and frolic in the Grand River the other day, merrick came out bleeding …

… and although not quite stitch-worthy, he’ll be wearing the vet-wrap for many days to come and sticking close to home with very limited activity. on this last point, he is not at all pleased.

so please, keep an eye out for dangers such as broken glass and pick up when you can.  myself, i’m going to start carrying an extra bag for glass pick up.  i might even have to start packing a broom and dustpan!  in the meantime, we’ve nicknamed this monkeynuts Flash and try to keep him amused with quieter games of tug.

  • ursulaI So understand what you mean.Your poor little pup. I have taken a dustpan and broom and swept up the glass on Albert st. by Phillip. I walk my dogs there many times a day for their potty breaks. For the life of me, I can not understand littering or vandalism. I just don’t get it. At least once a week I walk from The Lair on Albert down to Phillip and fill up a bag with trash. Fast food trash, Timmies cups, cig wrappers, candy wrappers, other dogs poop, cigarette buts. Come on people, bend over,(and pick up your trash).ReplyCancel

  • Lin StoneI didn’t realize from the thumbnail that it was a bandage. Poor guy. I know what you mean about glass everywhere. I’m surprised there aren’t more injuries, pets and us!

    Merrick! Heal! 😉ReplyCancel

  • AnitaPoor Merrick!

This is a BIG issue around my place too, broken bottles everywhere…so often I don’t even notice the glass until we’re walking right through it. It’s hard to believe that Autumn’s never seriously hurt herself, I’m just about ready to start walking her in her muttlucks year round!

I must say he does look really sharp with his little blue lighting bolt though! I hope he heals up quickly!ReplyCancel

  • Holly Garner-JacksonIt’s amazing the garbage that you find along the beaten path. Glass is really bad for everyone and everything. We’ve taken to carrying a bag on the woods road that we run Lola and Ralph on on Sundays to pick up he beer bottles and cans as well as other garbage from A-holes. Most garbage seems to be fast food, cigarettes and lousy beer, such as Bud. No one that drinks micro brews seems to toss their bottles.

Sorry about Merrick’s paw. He seems to be pleading with you to take it off. Please ma!!! Pretty please!
    Scritch his noggin for me.ReplyCancel
