bad blogger. bad! ~ {Ontario pet photographer}

yes, there is just way too much going on at scruffy dog these days … keeping up with the blog is nearly impossible, and it’s not something i’m about to hand over to someone else to do … so, unfortunately, you’re stuck with the intermittent entries.  of course, if you’re following SDP on facebook, you’ll be up on all the current scruffy models and the goings on around here at the scruffy headquarters. but for those of you who don’t have “the facebook”, well, let me catch you up a little on the things you’ve missed!

this is Teddy … and we found an awesome field of dandelions for this gorgeous boy to fly through …

Teddy was adopted from the KW Humane Society and is one well-loved dog.

next up, my own scruffy girl matea. i took her out for a little scouting a few weeks back, needing to check out some of my favorite local graffiti spots …

and a few other spots …

also in the past weeks, i had stumbled upon an older image of my pack  in the early days of merrick’s addition.  i was losing morley, and back then, in the early days, the merrick was terrified of the camera.

two years later, it’s pretty safe to say that it’s a slightly different story when it comes to the goober and cameras…

after a hike with the dogs, i decided i needed to grab one of the cameras and show you just how filthy this little goober can get when we take him out for a hike … at least he cleans up well.

of course, merrick would much rather give himself a shower any day of the week …

yup, i’m pretty lucky when it comes to scruffies …

hope you’re all having an awesome week!

finley from the windy city ~ {international pet photographer}

well, Finley isn’t the first American dog who’s made the trek up to Canada for a scruffy dog session.  we’ve had clients from as far away as California and then all the way to the east from New York City … and now … Chicago.  and yes, Finley, it’s windy here too!

mom, Randi, is a photographer herself, taking fantastic photos of dogs for her town’s (and surrounding towns’) fundraising calendars each year, and it was an absolute delight to spend the afternoon with her and husband Mike, sharing photography stories … not to mention working with a dog who is accustomed to being in front of the camera allt he time.

Randi made the trip from Chicago with one thing in mind — a big scruffy dog canvas — and she was torn as to whether she wanted a graffiti location or the infamous tunnel of trees.  so, we hit them both.

after some shooting in my favorite tunnel, we headed up to some more natural environment for Finley to let his hair down a little…

… and then the tunnel.  this is the image Randi decided on for her big 32×52 framed canvas, while going with one of the graffiti images as another large 20×30 wallmount.

and this one just makes me laugh … “Blarrrr! shaggy dog!”

of course, no scruffy dog session — whether a Standard or Starter — is complete without some time to let loose, and Finley took full advantage of his play time with a scruffy dog ball.

and the field of dandelions that was bright yellow only a couple of days earlier during a previous session, was now completely white …

and yes, objects are closer than they appear!   added to that, when Finley finally blew past me, he left me in a huge cloud of dandelion seeds.

what a poser …

and a few minutes down on the beach …

thanks Randi and Mike for bringing your big boy up here to meet me and for entrusting me with taking his photos.  it was a pleasure, and loads of fun, to work with you.  your enormous shipment should be arriving very soon!

  • pet portraitsGreat shots, especially against the graffiti. Would normally have seen that type of background as too much of a distraction, but here it really works! You have also managed to capture some lovely light and expression in all your photos. Very impressive!ReplyCancel

winnie and telly ~ {Guelph, Ontario dog photographer}

it’s probably been a year now since i’ve had the opportunity to post a blog entry focused just on one session. because of the heavy shooting schedule, it’s been our habit to post sneak peeks to the scruffy dog facebook page, and then post a recap of those images here on the blog, with absolutely no time to do our traditional blog posts for sessions.  and frankly, that sucks.  so … when time permits, i’ll try to post a few extra photos from sessions … especially when they’re such great looking little scruffnuts like Winnie …

…and her sweet brother Telly.

Winnie was a complete camera hog …

while brother Telly was a little more standoffish, wondering what was truly in it for him.

Telly is very much his own man … doing his own thing, only interested in you and your cameras for a 4-second time span or until his greedy sister barges her way into the treat zone. but i loved Telly’s calm, easy going energy …

just doin’ his own thing …

while his sister could be cajoled into doing just about anything … even some impromptu learning of a new trick like “down-all-the-way” so i could capture some good begging eyes.

yes, that Winnie is a pretty easy mark.

in fact, Miss Winnie is such a treat slut, there were times she was almost impossible to shoot … simply too eager to get to the delicious scruffy dog snacks. (well, i do bring the good stuff.)

little beggar …

we found a few great spots to shoot along Telly and Winnie’s usual walking paths …

and i just love the long lush grasses of spring … Winnie was a natural, but Telly was having none of the long grasses.

and how cool is it when butterflies decide to crash your photo session?

can’t you just see their different energies here?

thanks, Telly and Winnie, for the lovely afternoon.  you guys are awesome.
