a few scruffies from our fabulous summer ~ {Ontario pet photographer}

… just trying to catch up with all of the scruffies we met during our fabulous summer of shooting.  these are images that were shared on the scruffy dog facebook page; if you’re wanting to keep up with all of the scruffy clients and scruffy happenings as they’re happening, the facebook page is where it’s happening.   but for those who aren’t into facebook, we have our shiny, new blog to share the images with you.

first up, we have the very handsome Casey …

coming in from Toronto, his sheltie-beagle self really enjoyed the scruffy dog location … lots to sniff, lots to chew on …

i think he was even smiling a little once we hit the beach …

then again, it’s safe to say that Casey pretty much smiled through his entire session.

except when he had an itch.  and if you’ve got an itch …

lots of fun with the scruffy dog balls … i think this eight-year-old boy felt like a puppy again.

thanks for being so much fun, Casey …and being oh-so handsome!

then we had Riley Scooter.  it was love at first sight with this little scruffnut.

Riley shares his life with Shannon of Release the Hounds in Guelph, who offers dog-walking and doggie-daycare services.i think hanging out with so many other dogs is what has given Riley his attitude … i got a lot of “speak to the paw”.  okay, actually, it was his high-five.and like any good terrierist, Riley was big-time into the scruffy dog balls.  just look at that focus. a while ago, it was a photo of Riley that inspired me to share this quote from Roger Caras…

i just love this scruffy! he flies …

and he soars!

that Riley is just all-around amazing.  thanks for sharing your little boy with me, Shannon!

then we have Bozley.  what a sweet old man …

Boz belongs to Dr. Christine of the Dufferin Vet Hospital in Orangeville.

this wonderful old boy is battling cancer, has arthritis and lives life large as a tripod on his three legs.  much to Christine’s surprise, Boz had a lot more giddy-up than anyone could have expected at his scruffy session … giving me at least a few opportunities to capture some action shots.and he certainly surprised us all when – after his tiring two hour session – he found new life when reunited with his favorite ball and took a little spin around the expansive front yard.  honestly, it was hard to keep up with him!although this session was just for Boz, i couldn’t resist a couple of shots of Boz’s sister Bella …

and baby brother Beau.

and few other scruffy faces that were shared on the scruffy dog facebook page … we have Emjay the pug-cross, posing it up in the train tunnel.  and no, that’s not “evol” on the wall behind her … that’s gotta be “love” backwards.

and this is little Pippa.  Pippa’s mom thought she’d be tough to handle at her session, but as is usually the case, the ones presumed to be a handful are usually the best … and those dogs whose owners think are perfect turn out to be the nutbars.  🙂    Pippa was a doll for her session.

and this is Pippa’s older sister, Mackenzie. just look at that beautiful face!

i hope you enjoyed this little facebook catchup.  stay tuned for many more as we are over 100 images behind in posting to the blog due to the time it took to get the site/blog launched.  lots more to come!!  enjoy your week.

welcome to the new digs! ~ {Ontario pet photographer}

so welcome to the new home of scruffy dog!  is it just me or is there a bit of new-car smell around these new digs?

we are so incredibly thrilled to bring you the next generation of scruffy dog photography — the site and blog in one … one-stop shopping, everything at your fingertips.  i’ll admit, i was a little teary-eyed to see the old website go … although my web-designer was pretty good to pull the Band-aid quickly, not warning me when this new site was actually going live and the old one was being laid to rest (cue sad, mournful music).  soon that sweet old site will be a distant memory, i am sure.

she served me well though, that old site and the old blog.  but as my main workhorse-combo for almost five years now, they didn’t owe me anything and it was time for both of them to be put to bed.  still, for you SDP diehards, you’ll notice that we’ve retained the same colours that we’ve used from the very inception of scruffy dog. so that aspect hasn’t changed.  our new branding with the jumping scruffy dog — merrick goobernuts mcscruffy to be exact — is front and centre, of course … and well, seeing it all come together after months and months of planning, worry, work, and stress … well, it’s just all pretty thrilling.  i hope you like the new home as much as we do!

although from your perspective, the transformation appears seamless — a piece of cake, a slice of pie, a cone of ice cream, a bowl of stew, a plate of curry … no wait, i’m just making myself hungry — in fact, this has been a rather extensive undertaking.  much more than just a few decorations and format changes, we not only abandoned the old site and blog for a complete redesign, but also made a big move to a new server … something akin to an epic overseas haul where we’ve packed everything up neatly into a big storage container and shipped it halfway around the world through turbulent seas and seemingly uncharted waters.  and in my case — in our busiest fall season ever — having a crack team of movers and “unpackers” at the other end of the haul to get everything settled before my arrival.  of course, you have to know that i’m a decorator at heart, so i just can’t bring myself to trust the actual copy and photo layout to anyone else.  yup, that’s me: neurotic home owner in there with the movers, repacking the boxes so nothing gets broken.

so while you may still find the odd scrap of forgotten packing tape lingering in the corners, my crack-team of movers has been amazingly thorough with the new SDP site and blog, and we should be relatively glitch-free.

while you will see some of the old content and copy from the former site, there is a lot of new content on this new SDP.  there are new pages and new information… check out all the new information under the for photographers tab, and the raft of new testimonials under kind words.  all of the former information about dog health and nutrition, and links and research into vaccinations can be found under the dog info tab.

if you enjoy the SDP blog and would like to be alerted via email whenever new entries are made, be sure to use the subscribe function over there on the slider tab along the left side of the blog.  many SDP followers receive their SDP blog-feed this way so that they never miss a post.  it’s easy.

and if you don’t already follow SDP on facebook in order to keep up with the latest with daily photos and fun (why not?!) you can get there by using the facebook slider tab on the left as well.

and last but not least, before sending you off to sniff out all the new corners of the new digs and mark your territory with comments, i need to give a huge, big, scruffy thank you to Sarah of The Design Truth, for all of her incredible work behind the scenes. i can’t find the words to describe Sarah’s enthusiasm and calmness through what could have been a nightmare of a process, not to mention her phenomenal eye and attention for detail.  it’s super hard to find good help these days, almost impossible to find someone who you have to tell something to only once — Sarah is one of those.  you tell her and she not only gets it, she gets ‘er done.  thank you BIG, Sarah, for everything that you are, for your magic dust, wizardry and super secret awesomesauce.

also a big thanks and kudos goes out to a man whom i’ve never even met — Nikil Jose of ninth notion.  dude, you rock!  Nikil is the web developer master who handled the host switch, and did all the “dirty work” (as i call it) … domains, email accounts, transfers, SEO … the “ick” stuff, the stuff that gives me nightmares. with almost five years worth of site, files, blog and SEO development, i realize this move was a little more extensive than some … not to mention that the client is a little more of a nervous-nellie than most!  so big thanks to you too, Nikil!

so, without further delay, welcome to the new generation of scruffy dog.  we hope you like it here!  sniff around, get a feel for things, and like i said, if you’d like to mark your territory a little, feel free to pee in a few corners … er … leave a few comments here and there.  enjoy!

a few more scruffy faces … and not so scruffy! ~ {Ontario pet photographer}

as we head into our heavy fall schedule, we’re trying to catch you up with just a few of the scruffy faces that rocked our summer!  if you follow scruffy dog on facebook you’ll be more than familiar with this wild girl — young Dutch shepherd Beretta …

these are some of the images from her second scruffy session, taken at her own property this time … and in her own pond.

this girl is high-power, high-drive, high-octane … all the way …

can you tell that relaxing on the couch for a few quick shots was the last thing she wanted to do?

next up, Ralphie … aw, Ralphie … need i saw more about this scruffy?

yup, could have stolen this boy.

and what about Ozzy?

this boy lives, and i mean LIVES, for his ball …

and i thought maybe it’s time to feature a few non-canine scruffies who have filled our summer here at scruffy dog … like parsley-loving Gary …

and lovely Tazzi who was terrified of me and the cameras at first … i brought her around to the concept though … sweet girl …

and the elusive Ember …

cute little Thumper …

and how about George?  nope, that’s not a corgi-butt!

and how about these totally non-scruffy entries?  slippery frog photography?  no, this kermit was not part of a session … i stumbled upon him while out for a hike with my scruffies and had to grab a quick shot.

this non-scruffy was our very first visitor to the new landscaping outside of scruffy dog headquarters!  the work on the new front is still not quite complete, but when it is, i’ll post photos.

and i figure i should post at least few photos of the resident scruffnuts … merrick goobernuts mcscruffy and his girl matea …  this photo was taken for take-your-dog-to-work day.  unfortunately, the scruffies were a little disappointed to discover that it was just another typical day at scruffy dog headquarters … no subway ride, no car ride, no fancy schmancy office … just the same ol’ studio.

of course, nothing makes matea happier than being out in the field … posing or not posing … THAT is a day at work!

and to end this blog entry, an older image of my old man morley that i shared on facebook.  we miss the old man daily … he will always be a part of scruffy dog.

  • Linda BlackI’m not on facebook so I can’t leave comments on your facebook page. That said I check in daily to see who is the star of the day and I am never disappointed. So since this is my chance may I inundate you with my comments? The photos of Beretta,the swamp monster are a hoot, the lighting for George and the frog are outstanding, the claw capture is chilling and oh so CAT (I’ve got 2), the snail is delightful, the black and white Ozzie is such a difference from the colour and really lovely, Ralphie is just plain cute as is Gary the quinea pig and without a post of Matea and Merrick it wouldn’t be a proper post.ReplyCancel

  • Holly Garner-JacksonAh, always great to see you amazing work. Really love the one of Beretta swimming towards you. All of these are spectacular!ReplyCancel
