Internationally-renowned, award-winning animal photographer Illona Haus created scruffy dog photography inc. as the province's premier pet photography business in 2007 ... the first of its kind in Canada ... and, still today, continues to serve clients across Ontario, the US and the world. Based in Kitchener, Ontario and photographing exclusively animals for almost 20 years - both commercially and for private clients - Illona is considered one of the world's leading and most influential pet photographers.

Please drop me a line! I'd love the opportunity to capture stunning, creative, one-of-a-kind photographic memories of your 4-legged loved ones to treasure in artwork for a lifetime, and show you just what makes the scruffy dog experience second to none.

doggie-bling for doggie-peeps

it’s a somewhat guarded-secret that the bigger clients of scruffy dog receive special gifts for their dogs in the way of a little bling … i won’t say more.  but after numerous doggie-bling purchases, well, i kinda got to feeling that it was time for a little people bling … just a little somethin’-somethin’ to merry-christmas to myself.

well, to be honest, i wasn’t looking, but when i stumbled onto the website of Jill Beninanto – a fellow dog photographer and artist – of Sit Stay Smile Photography in Virginia, and tripped over to her etsy store , i simply had to have one of her leather cuff bracelets.

thanks so much, Jill.  it’s perfect.

and of course, i chose the “fetch” cuff (instead of “woof” or “bark” or any of the others) … well … because of my girl, who means the entire universe to me, and fetches everything and anything i ever need … including my camera bag.

  • Jill BeninatoThanks Illona for the plug! I hope you enjoy it and GET that tattoo! If I can do it anyone can…just bring a friend for moral support. If my friend wasn’t there, I may have left with half a tattoo…that would have looked real nice. I love how your dog holds your Crumpler bag…too darn cute! Happy Holidays to you!ReplyCancel

  • NanboI got one of Jill’s bracelets too…..her beloved Clancey! And I loved it!ReplyCancel

honk if you see us!

although winter tends to be a quieter time, we do get around town a lot … maybe even around your town sometimes! and the scruffy dog mobile is often a headturner … just the other day we had a woman laughing and waving from her car next to us as her lovely wheaten bounced in the back seat.

so hey, if you see us out and about, give us a honk and a wave!

  • karenSaw you turning onto Pastern last night and here I am this morning. The ad works!!ReplyCancel

  • TamandraHow cool! I’ve been wanting to do that to my green Honda Element since I got it, two years ago already. I’m a sticker freak, and the back has lots of dog related ones, and a few political ones. Guess those would have to come off if I was going for professionalism ha ha. I found a WOOF trailer hitch cover, too. Have you notice it turning heads? Looks really, really great!ReplyCancel

  • marioh man….someone correct my grammar …..I should learn to proofread.

I still love the graphics and think your ride looks stylin.ReplyCancel

  • emily priestleythat looks great, illona! i love it, especially the “let me shoot your dogs” part. i’d be intrigued if i saw that car drive by.ReplyCancel

  • Allison F.THIS looks awesome!!!! Really pro and so fun. Love the “WOOF” sticker as well…. very cute.

For some reason, I’m thinking that decalling my rusted out suzuki swift might NOT help my business profile so much 🙂 LOLReplyCancel

  • mariOh I love this! Too fun! And I am always enjoy ironic humour. I’d wave at you too. You think your busy now….ReplyCancel

before the snow fell …

… i managed to get in as many shoots as possible to take advantage of the autumn colors and wonderful warm light.  unfortunately, my schedule hasn’t allowed me to share with you all of my clients’ images on the blog … hopefully the quieter winter months will allow us to revisit some of these wonderful fall faces.

but having just finished working on big Dexter’s images, i thought i’d share …

this big pup was a joy to spend time with … whether it was romping in the woods

… tearing up the golf course after the scruffy dog  Cuz ball that was a definite hit with the young guy …

… or protecting us from those vicious autum leaves.

he’s a handful, but Dexter is going to grow up to be an amazing man, and the bond between him and Alison is already strong … a pleasure to see.

i grew up with shepherds, so it’s always wonderful to spend time with such a breathtaking example of the breed, not to mention be able to turn my cameras on him.

thanks, Dexter for a memorable afternoon, and thank you, Alison, for sharing your big guy with me.
