carling & mackelin ~ {Brantford, Ontario pet photographer}

you saw their sneak peek here and now it’s time to brace yourselves for a long blog entry.  i did try to narrow down the field, but, lord, i love these two little monkeys!  this is young Mackelin …

… he’s barely six months old and already has a truckload of expressions.  in fact, i have little doubt you’ll have any problems distinguishing him from his sister Carling.

big sister Carling is just under two years old, and although she’s equally as adorable, it’s Mack who kept cracking me up as i worked on their double-sized gallery of images.

of course, Carling was no slouch in the expressions department …

we had a great time out on the open, windswept, snowy golfcourse, but it was this small stand of trees where i had the most fun with these little guys.

and honestly, i have no idea whose little corkscrew tail this is …

seriously, how expressive is this boy?  like: “just give me the treat already, lady!”

although it’s never the most comfortable shooting conditions when it’s blowing and snowing, the little snowflakes can really make a shot …

again with the faces … i just love Mack’s smile …

we did take shelter from the snow briefly, and for some added colour, under a small stand of pine trees.

and i couldn’t resist these couple of trees as a backdrop …

… but Mackelin isn’t one to sit still for very long …

and he’s not one to leave his sister alone very long either.

these two had a blast tearing up the golf course …

and there was wind …  Mackelin determined it was from the east.

… and it helped tremendously with Carling’s aerodynamics.

of course, free rides home are always the best.

and these guys were pretty pooped when we finally got back and in from the cold …

in fact, i really had to work to get them back up and at ’em.  so, have you figured out who’s who yet?

need a hint?

yup, smooshy face is sweet, little Carling …

… and bug-eyes is Mr. Expression Mack.

thanks, Shelley, for sharing your two little lovelies with me.   i hope you enjoy your double-wide gallery.  and thanks Carling and Mack for being so absolutely adorable!

  • LynnHi there

Beautiful pictures! Do you sell the images for commercial lisence? I am a small business in the uk and i have cushions, would love a black pug for a cushion and there are a few beautiful images on here.

Wondered if you offered a small commercial liscense or a photo in exchange for some cushion covers and plaques of your dogs!

    Many Thanks
    LynnReplyCancel

  • ShelOoops, you are so right! Sorry. The photos are so beautiful. I am sooo excited. You have done, as usual another job of perfection. Thank you so much. Your models sure did enjoy it! Car and Mac want you to come back any day.ReplyCancel

  • illonathanks so much, everyone, for your visits and comments.

Shelley, yes, my eyes were getting a little buggy like Mac’s after all the pug images, but i know i got them right. Carling has the smaller head, buttoned-back ears, white blaze on the chest, less white around her eyes. Mack has the male head, more alert ears, whites around his eyes, more prominent nose, and endless expressions. honestly, i could tell them apart even at the shoot, they’re so different. i think the mix up is maybe you’re reading my text to the wrong image. my text always refers to the image below.

in the second last image – 139 – that’s Carling on the left and Mac on the right.

    hope that clears it up.ReplyCancel

  • ShelLove the photos Ilona, you have done so well. Just that you have mixed up Car and Mac at the end. Mac is the smooshy face and Car is the bug eyed one. Unless you live with them daily and after staring at the photos for gosh knows how long, I can see why you could easily do that. No probs. They are beautiful. Love them. Can’t wait to choose book and wall hangings.ReplyCancel

  • Ryker/SandyIt is funny how you can take several dog breeds I don’t consider “my Favorite” and turn my head 180 degrees around. Your photos are amazing!ReplyCancel

  • kelliaction pugs! now that’s unique, you never really see photos of pugs in action. although, the portraits are just beautiful here as well, their bug-eyes are like mirrors. i couldn’t choose a favorite if i tried! a favorite shot, i mean. i definitely couldn’t choose a favorite pug.ReplyCancel

  • LynstarPerfectly adorable, perfectly captured. LOVE these little guys!!ReplyCancel

  • ChrisMy favorite is the 20th picture down……two little dogs, running and playing, feet flying….you captured pure dog joy…I just love that one.ReplyCancel

  • illonathanks so much, everyone. glad you’re enjoying these little guys as much as i did.

of course, shooting two, ankle-height, speedy, out-of-control black dogs in fields of snow is just about every photographer’s nightmare. not the easiest shoot, but definitely a couple of the funnest dogs. 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Holly Garner-JacksonCool shots of these pugs! I love the one with the pine needles hanging out of Mack’s mouth and the flying pugs are amazing. You must have been laughing a lot during this shoot!
    Well done!!! Well, awesomely done!ReplyCancel

  • LainerOMG! This is the Pug type I adore. they are perfect. What breeder did these guys come from? I’m curious? Is there a website? If I were getting another Pug, i would definitely buy a pup from them. they are the most perfect Pug I’ve seen ever. So cute. I love your pictures of them. So awesome. These little guys remind me of my dog Ozzy, though he is a French Bulldog. These Pugs have the same expressions, and they vary with each shot. I love these breeds with the expressive eyes! So much fun to photograph! Thanks for sharing.ReplyCancel
