boots & mollie, new york city gals

meet Boots and Mollie …

that’s Boots up front– where this gorgeous girl tends to be — and just-a-little-shy Mollie hanging back a bit.

we started our shoot with a little running … letting the girls stretch their long legs …

when i first laid eyes on the stunning Boots, i couldn’t refrain from mentioning the slight resemblance to our Canadian TV hero The Littlest Hobo.  and ironically, Cenza, Boots’ mom, had just that week seen some 30-year-old reruns of the show for the first time, and actually knew what i was referring to.

these two gorgeous gals live in New York City, but are both rescues from the Caribbean.  Boots was found at only 4 weeks of age, starving and alone, under a car.

three years later, in the midst of a hurricane, Mollie joined the family when the local humane society was looking for foster families for misplaced animals.  she went from foster to adopted immediately.

now, the sad part in all of this is that Boots is battling cancer.  like a true dog, however, this girl is living each day to the fullest.  just look at that happy face!

we had a lot of fun in the woods …

… in the surrounding grassy areas …

… and on the beach.

it was awesome meeting you gals.  Cenza and Massimo, i hope you’re enjoying your girls’ gallery!

this old puppy ~ {Toronto, Ontario pet photographer}

some of you will recognize this little girl from her earlier sneak peek … this is Brianna.

she’s ten years young …

… and loaded with character.

this little girl lived with her first mom, Nancy, for almost nine years.  when health issues made caring for Brianna too much, Nancy had to give her little charge over to her nephew and his wife, Meghan.  it appeared to me that this little dollface has made the transition brilliantly, adoring both of the women in her life …

by Meghan’s own words, Nancy did some awesome training with this little girl: “sit, stay, come, dance, speak, shake, down, rollover and wave goodbye.”  Meghan’s contribution to Brianna’s training, apparently, is: “high five and the moonwalk.”  i so would have loved to see that moonwalk!

Meghan brought Brianna here for her shoot since Nancy lives locally, and since Meghan loves the tunnel of trees, we headed off to one of my favorite spots.

this little girl was a dream to work with …

she even came whenever i called her …

and when Meghan called her, of course.

Brianna had lots to say herself …

even at the beach …

… Brianna had things to say …

on the way back to the studio, i just knew we had to stop by a cut wheat field i’d used for an earlier shoot.

how cute is this girl?

and can you believe she’s 10?

something was scurrying around in the bristly wheat stalks and Brianna was definitely on alert.

thanks for a fun shoot, Brianna … and thanks for introducing me to your wonderful girl, Nancy and Meghan.  i hope you’re enjoying Bri’s gallery!

Miles is back ~ {Ontario pet photographer}

you may remember Miles …

his full blog entry from his previous shoot can be found here.  and we had a great shoot last summer, but when mom Ingrid saw Buster’s latest shoot in the train tunnel and the tunnel of trees (for which a lot of scruffy dog clients travel here in order to have their shoot incorporate), she just had to bring Miles here for some similar shots.  she especially wanted the train tunnel because of Miles’ past … picked up as a stray in Tennessee, Miles’ history is unknown, and Ingrid imagines him having toughed it out on the streets and in tunnels.

so, it was off to the train tunnel.  at first Miles was a little confused as to the odd location, and maybe just a little uneasy … a quick tongue flick of nerves …

then … “wait, did i hear a train comin’?”

“and hang on a second, is that Skeletor? seriously, are you sure he can’t get me?”

“okay, okay …i’ll sit for you …”

“… and i’ll give you my best faces.  howz this one?”

“and this one?”

but if you wait long enough for something to catch their attention, eventually even the craziest little terrier goofball becomes a stellar model.

even a bit of a runway … er … railway model?

this was the first shoot to which i brought Merrick along for the ride.  he’d met Miles last fall during Ingrid’s studio-consult and these two “chill” little boys hit it off, so i thought it would be fun to take him along and let him run around at the second location.  in the tunnel though, i set down my camera bag and asked my boy to wait by it; and the entire time i worked with Miles, my boy stayed by the cameras.  still, i thought it would be fun to get a few shots of the the two adorable rescued terriers in the tunnel …

and this is the image that Ingrid is deciding to go with big … a 54″ canvas.  i can’t wait to see it!

so after the train tunnel, it was a drive through Mennonite country to the tree tunnel.  i swear, Miles was like: “seriously? more posing what am i?”

“oh, all right…”

“wait, do i smell something from that farm over there?”

and then i dared to ask for a “stand” from sweet Miles.  “are you kidding me, lady?”

“now, where was that delicious smell i just had?”

“oh yeah, baby!  there it is.”

“that’s one terrific smell … i love the countryside.”

“hold up. got an itch!”

okay, now we’re posing …

and … that’s a wrap, Miles.  “seriously? we’re done?”

all done.  “and i’m outta here!”

thanks, Ingrid, for a fun shoot, and thanks, Miles, for always being such a fabulous and patient model.  you’ll be seeing another blog entry soon about Miles when i talk about dogs on posts … so stay tuned.

barkley’s snowy session ~ {Ontario pet photographer}

you met Barkley in his sneak peek a while ago, and then in an entry on post-production work.  now i can share a few highlights from his snowy shoot …

this was the Winter segment of Barkely’s Winter/Summer session.  as is often the case with our Winter/Summer sessions, the Winter segment is a shorter segment so that our Summer shoot is the big three-hour shoot on home-turf, incorporating multiple locations including the home.  so for his Winter, Barkley came here …

… and i think he rather enjoyed himself.  a little hunting …

… a lot of running …

… and, of course, a little, er …

with a former cruciate injury and repair, we made sure that the footing wasn’t slippery and that Barkley didn’t overdo it, but mom Deborah really wanted some shots of her exuberant, joyous boy running …

in the summer, well past his recovery period, we’ll be able to let Barkley let loose a lot more.

still, he let enough wind through those ears to clear ‘em out.

of course, Deborah didn’t drive all the way here and not get a trip into the magical forest …

Barkley seemed to know exactly what i wanted from him once we got there … “oh, okay. right here? you want a little o’ this? how ’bout this?”

and as the snow came down faster and thicker, i was able to grab a few quick shots of Barkley with his mom.

thanks for a fun shoot, Barkley and Deborah.  i’m looking forward to our Summer session.  i hope you enjoy your gallery.

lucy & max sneak ~ {Waterloo, Ontario pet photographer}

ah, my two little darlings from yesterday afternoon/evening … meet Max and Lucy …

Lucy is a girl after my own heart.  my Murph — the original scruffy dog — was most likely a good deal wheaten, so i do love my s-wheaties.  and Lucy was such a lovely, well-behaved lady … and just look at that face!

of course, Max is no slouch in the cute-department.  in fact, it’s good to know that Ewoks are alive and well right here on Earth, right?

and check out those eye-lashes.

you’ll be seeing more of Lucy and Max soon.  hope you enjoy the preview, Julie and Drew.
