another session with big boy James ~ {Toronto pet photographer}

some of you may remember James from his first scruffy dog session last year.  like a lot of scruffy dog clients, James’s mom Justyna couldn’t get enough, and wanted even more photos of her big, handsome boy …

their first session took place here on scruffy dog territory … so this time i headed into Toronto to shoot James on his own turf … a.k.a. Squirrel Central.

with squirrels running amok in his park, it became a matter of positioning myself accordingly to the squirrels.

and here’s just a little slideshow of James’ sessions …

thanks for being such a model, James.  i hope you enjoy your gallery Justyna.

our weekly facebook recap! ~ {Ontario pet photographer}

oh yes, we’re a little behind on providing you with your facebook recaps.  things have been supremely busy here at scruffy dog headquarters … we’re working hard on re-branding and a new logo for SDP, developing albums for a lot of fall clients, and still working to catchup with the post work on so many of our fabulous fall sessions.  sometimes i wish there were thirteen months in the year, and i could have an extra one just to catchup!

and it seems lately that i don’t even have time for regular blog entries, but i swear, we’ll get back to those soon!  you just might be enjoying the fall colours in February, that’s all.

in the meantime, here is a sampling of the images you may have missed on the scruffy dog facebook page.  as always, if you’re wanting the latest and greatest that SDP has to offer, including daily photos, news, and chat, you’ll want to follow the SDP facebook page by “liking” it.

first up, here’s a little belated holiday cheer … merrick goobernuts mcscruffy showing off not only his elf hat, but also his newest trick!  now, i assure you, i’m not into teaching my dogs “tricks”, but rather more useful tasks like picking up around the house and getting their dinner blankets out each evening. but merrick loves the challenge of any kind of learning so …

next up, we have young Rico …

and, since a lot of the SDP followers are aspiring photographers, i often share a little post-work sampling.  this is adorable Gus’s before-and-after …

and then Gus himself … the boy of many expressions …

and sweet baby Maggie, the Portugese Water Dog and born model …

then we had young Henry … retriever in training …

and Bisou and Scout … two sweethearts who came from Toronto to take advantage of our locations here …

our girl matea had to have some dental work … two root canals.  since one was an upper canine, we opted for root canal instead of extraction of the dead tooth since a root canal is less invasive and requires no real healing time.  however, at ten years of age, the anesthetic took her down hard.  next up, she needs a button tumor removed, but with this tough girl, we’re hoping it can be done with only local.

and finally, our own mcscruffy in the tunnel of trees, wishing everyone a happy holidays!

stay tuned for more facebook updates … or get them directly from the scruffy dog facebook page!  hope you all have a fabulous, scruffy weekend.

little lolli grows up ~ {Toronto, Ontario pet photographer}

with a heavy fall shooting schedule and now the post work on those dozens of sessions, we’re woefully behind in blogging.  in fact, the guardians of the next few scruffy faces you’re going to be seeing on the SDP blog have already received their full galleries and are in the midst of ordering …  yeah, that far behind!

i’m sure a lot of you will remember little Lolli from her puppy shoot last winter …

well, she’s grown up … just a little.

and although this little girl still goes like stink …

… she’s more able to multi-task … running, carrying a stick, and — what is not so readily visible — working on her complex math equations, all at the same time!

we started with some shooting indoors …

then, off to the great outdoors!

when Lolli’s parents mentioned the location they were considering, i was psyched … i knew Lolli’s colour would look fab with the red bricks!

and like any well-respecting retriever, Lolli has grown to love balls.

and b-i-g sticks …

i’m hoping Maria doesn’t mind me sharing a photo of her on the blog.  i don’t often post “owner” photos, and actually don’t often take this kind of “posed” shot, but i liked this …

and i loved Maria’s red boots.

as always, variety is big with a scruffy dog session, and this blue wall was a nice splash …

thanks for a fun afternoon, Maria and Andy.  i can’t wait to get working on Lolli’s Best in Show album!

and here is last week’s facebook recap! ~ {Ontario pet photographer}

last week saw some pretty awesome scruffy faces on the scruffy dog facebook page.  if you’re not following SDP on facebook, then you’re missing a lot of sneak peeks, chat about dogs and photography, and well, just plain fun.  but don’t fret if you’re not a facebooker (how long before we see that noun in the dictionary?) … as always, i don’t want SDP followers to miss any fun … so here are the photos you missed last week on facebook …

the absolute gorgeous, scruffylicious Macy …

and the big hunk of the week was Charlie from his Karma Collar shoot

then there was baby Harlow … a whole lotta trouble dressed up in a whole lotta cute …

and the very handsome James again …

and a reminder that, although we can’t fit a shoot in for you before the new year, scruffy dog gift certificates are always available and make for a great surprise for Rover under the tree!

matea and merrick goobernuts mcscruffy, our two resident scruffies, were taking the change in weather all in stride … matea’s advice for the colder weather: be sure to have a good neck-warmer!

and the darling, wee Baxter … always keeping an eye on his parents, just in case i followed through on my threats to steal him …

and the incomparable Indy … being tortured and abused at her photo session … or so you’d think, given the disdain on her face.

James again, in the tall grasses …

plus a little before-and-after with a photo of James that i quite like … just to give you an idea of what goes into the scruffy dog photos, and what can be done with good post work …

and a closer-up of the intricate post work required to remove the leash as it lay across the very significant line of his shoulder … (i’m only showing you this in Lightroom; the final work of removing the leash required an edit in Photoshop).

and Macy again, catching some air …

and finally, merrick goobernuts after anesthesia to xray his severe underbite and a couple of worrisome teeth … happy to report that everything is fine!

hope you enjoyed this facebook recap.  stay tuned next week for more!  and if you don’t follow SDP on facebook but would like to be kept abreast with the SDP blog, remember, you can subscribe to the SDP blog via RSS feed or email!  simply scroll down to the very bottom of the blog and you’ll find the handy links!

shadow’s scruffy session ~ {Toronto, Ontario pet photographer}

if you follow the scruffy dog facebook page, you’ll have already seen several sneak peeks of Shadow, the ever-smiling golden …

i know i’m not the only one thinking: “Squirrel?!”

we had a lot of fun at our session, driving around and finding different locations in which to shoot this lovely boy … from parks, and Unionville station …

mom, Betty, was after a photo of her boy in a very natural setting like a field.  alas, those can be hard to find in Toronto, but how about this?

as the sun was setting, i spotted these long grasses behind a restaurant in some plaza just off the highway …

and some fun in Shadow’s backyard …

and his favorite park.

my favorite images from the shoot were taken at the tracks in Unionville …

of course, it was all going great until a wedding photographer and her entrouage elbowed their way onto our location, with no regard for our shoot …

so, we moved on.

we even found a not-quite-ripe soybean field to romp in …

thanks so much for being such a happy boy, Shadow.
