the blur that is my boy ~ {Ontario exclusive pet photographer}

as part of the very popular and extremely active 52 Weeks for Dogs group that i created on flickr last year, devoted to one-year projects of weekly photos of your dog,  we sometimes present a weekly challenge for members to take part in.  challenges have ranged from depth-of-field, selective focus, b&w treatment, pop culture, and this week: action blur.

as I lay in bed last night, an image suddenly formed in my mind which i felt would answer the challenge perfectly.  all that was left was to figure out how to execute it with all three scruffies.  i shouldn’t have continued setting up the shot beyond the initial click.  the first one nailed it …

action-blur-01

… my lounging girl, a disdainful aslan looking on, and merrick — a constant blur in our world.

enjoy your weekend, everyone!  i hope it’s not a blur!

added note for all you techies: no, there are no special effects or extra photoshopping tricks here. this shot was accomplished through a slow shutter speed and good dog-wranglin’.

lexus doesn’t mind the bridges ~ {Kitchener dog photographer}

just had to share a few images from a shoot a couple of weeks ago with a real trooper.  for those of you living in or around Kitchener-Waterloo, you know that unless you’re crossing via a highway, the only way you’re getting over the Grand River is over one of the four multi-span concrete bowstring arch bridges … and you are, no doubt, well familiar with how slow going it can be to get through these areas because of the bridges’ restricted flow, especially at Bridge Street or old King.

so i thought, in spite of most of us Waterloo’ites cursing these heritage bridges during rush hour, why not incorporate their architectural beauty into a photoshoot?

lexus-7071

of course, i’d try this only on a weekend, but still, even with minimal traffic, the cars blasted past.  i was so proud of big girl Lexus for her bravery.

she wasn’t keen on actually posing, but owner Joyce and I managed to coax her along several passes of the bridge …

lexus-7911

actually, i think Lexus thought she was just out for an afternoon walk.  thanks, Joyce and Lexus, for the opportunity to show off our lovely bridge in — i hope — a new light.

oh, and absolutely Lexus was wearing her leash!

GSPs running amok ~ {Waterloo dog photographer}

you’ll be seeing more of these two boys soon.  this is just a quick sneak peek for mom Deb.

hope they slept well last night, Deb!

shy girl ginny ~ {Kitchener dog photographer}

meet Ginny.

ginny-39-edit-edit-2

… probably one of my top three shiest clients to date.   with these types of high-fear cases i tend to start out from a distance.

ginny-26

… and work my way in slowly.

ginny-69-edit1

to the point where i’m eventually getting some attention from them.  Ginny was no exception to that handling technique … even giving me a little flourish with those brilliant papillion ears of hers.

ginny-41-edit

thanks, Ginny, for being such a little trooper.  and thanks Janet and Mark and Julianna and James!  i hope you enjoy the rest of Ginny’s images.

what are you doing to beat the heat? ~ {exclusive dog photographer}

are you doing this?

pool-33

or maybe a little of this?

with the temps soaring into the upper 30s these past few days, and the humidex nudging that oppression up over 40 — that’s 100+ degrees for all of my good friends across the border — well, ask any dog and, in between the drooling pants and hangdog looks, they’ll probably tell you it’s just too doggamn hot.  unless, of course, you’re able to scoop up the very last kiddie pool at Toys R Us … and don’t even bother trying Walmart or Zellers or Canadian Tire.  they’re all out.  but blessed Ashley down at the Toys R Us was Merrick’s savior today with the last dusty pool kicking around the place.

i’m not sure, but i think he kinda sorta just a little likes it.

as for my saner girl matea …

pool-52-21

this crazy dog will collapse and luxuriate in the deepest, muckiest, slimiest, smelliest, scummiest puddles she can find on any trail … but no way will she get into a shallow pool of clean water.  however, give this girl a hose …

pool-63

and you’ve utterly and completely made her day.

so, do what you have to, but stay cool!
