who doesn’t love a basset? ~ {Burlington, Ontario pet photographer}

you saw Flash’s sneak peek here, but i figured it was time to share some more photos from this big boy’s shoot earlier this fall.

seems a little backwards to be sharing these now since Flash’s big canvas and prints, and his big Best in Show flushmount album have already been prepped, designed and ordered.  can’t wait to see all of this boy’s stuff when it comes in.

what a handsome boy.

of course, looks this stunning require frequent beauty-rests …

but don’t let that slow, sloppy face or those fat, flippery feet fool you.  this boy can move …

especially when promised a “w-a-l-k”.

Flash was adopted through the Basset Hound Rescue of Ontario three years ago, and i can firmly attest to the incredible love which surrounds this big lug today.

he is the centre of mom and dad’s universe …

and let it be known that this boy knows no boundaries.  he’s up for any challenge …

our session was plagued with some rather gray skies, and darkness came much earlier than forecast … but we made the most of it.

… using the last of the light to capture some shots of Flash at … well … basset-warp-speed …

and, of course, no basset shoot would be complete without a double snaggle-tooth …

thanks, Flash, for a fun shoot.  and thanks Micheline and Doug for sharing your wonderful boy with me.

flash sneak peek ~ {Burlington, Ontario pet photographer}

this is Flash’s sneak peek … also known as: fun with lips …

i’ll say it again, if you’re not following the scruffy dog facebook page then you’re missing half the fun, because we’ve already shared a lot laughs over this boy during the past week since his session.

our session was cut short by incoming storm clouds choking out what should have been some glorious evening sun.  yeah, i know my sunset times, and plan accordingly … i time each scruffy dog session, the pre-session meeting, the get-to-know-ya, the warm-up, and even accounting for all the travel times to locations.  alas, the weather gods didn’t play fair this time around and called curtains a whole hour early!

and i say: “phooey, weather-gods!”, we still rocked this boy’s shoot …

… with the same big variety and loads of scruffy fun … just an hour shorter.  and yes, with the scruffy dog chair.

i’m sure you’ll be seeing more of Flash’s ears and lips on the blog soon …

can you wait that long?

if you don’t love a basset …

… then you’re a weirdo.  i mean, seriously, who doesn’t immediately fall in love with those eyes and those ears, that face!

meet cinnamon …

cinnamon-584

a perfect example of everything to love about bassets. and she’s not as shy as she looks … in fact, she had her nose into everything, including my lenses, with no hesitation.

a real poser … although some of her looks gave her the air of a well-versed, been-there-done-that, yet underpaid model.

you might recognize the location in this shoot from Kiera’s shoot a few weeks ago.  Kiera’s owner introduced me to this place in Elmira, and although i have great tromping grounds right here around the scruffy dog studio, this spot offers a great variety of backdrops, including it’s own beach!

you’ll also note in the previous two photos (and more to come) that i use a long-line for dogs like Cinnamon … 60′ of light mountaineering rope with a light caribiner.  with a few instructions to owners, this line allows us some freedom and action shots without taking the risk of dogs like our darling basset here picking up a scent and tearing off.  for images ordered, i always remove the long-line in post, but for purposes of the blog, it’s too much work … so forgive its presence here.
