orville love balls ~ {Waterloo, Ontario pet photographer}

this is Orville …

you may remember him from his short train tunnel/graffiti shoot earlier this year.  Orville is also one of the KW Humane Society calendar winners, and is featured in the 2012 calendar.  adopted from the KWHS, Orville is — without question — leading the good life.

you could call him Mr. Happy …

… or home jester, as he elicits a lot of laughter from his parents …

Orville’s proud parents wanted more than the mini-shoot for the KWHS 2012 calendar, so we took their scruffy session to the park …

normally a ball- or toy-driven dog is a pleasure to photograph since you can more easily direct their attention.  but the kind of over-the-top ball-intensity/obsession that Orville has can make a photosession difficult … that is, until you have a good handle on his particular energy — if you don’t want every photo to look unnatural due to the extreme intensity and focus on the ball, you need to determine how close is too close before he starts to look unnaturally intent, how much you can manipulate the ball to bring his head to a more natural angle.

most of all though, it was about having fun chasing the ball …

thanks, Orville, for a fun shoot!

memphis’s red dust shoot ~ {Ontario pet photographer}

oy … we are so swamped here at scruffy dog headquarters, and so behind in posting.  of course, the SDP facebook page is where you’ll catch all the action … as it happens!

weeks ago i had already prepped some images from Memphis’s awesome shoot to share on the blog, so i’d better get them up here for you to enjoy!  (i can’t believe it’s taken this long, but prepping blog entries does take a lot of time, and in the fall, with the heavy shooting schedule, SDP doesn’t have a moment to spare.)

you probably remember this eggheaded chap from his graffiti shoot earlier this year … and then perhaps from the sneak peek of his bigger shoot this fall.  but i want to share just a small collection of images from his big shoot here on the blog.

as you’ll see, we used one of the scruffy dog lines for a lot of Memphis’s shoot … too many distractions in this wild location for the boy.  you’ll also notice he’s showing off a brand new custom-made, Karma collar!  if you’re interested in one of these collars, don’t worry … we’ll probably have another scruffy dog/Karma collar special soon!

of course, with any scruffy dog session, running is absolutely involved!

and just a little posing …

and more running in the red dirt …

here you can see Memphis wearing his original Karma collar made especially for him.  how handsome is he in this awesome gear?

just a wee beauty-nap in between some ‘takes’.

i just love shooting this location, and Memphis rocked it!

thanks for being such a handsome egghead, Memphis.  i know i didn’t make mom and dad’s job easy in picking out photos for their walls and album … but they’ll get there.  and thank you, Don and Krista, for a memorable afternoon/evening.

gilmour and murphy very autumny shoot ~ {Muskoka, Ontario pet photographer}

you’ve seen these two in their sneak peek earlier on the blog, and i know we’re behind in blogging due to the heavy fall shooting schedule, but here — at last — is their fuller blog entry.  these two sorta kinda loved the beaches.

Gilmour owns the strip of beach at his cottage …

and like just about any golden retriever, he loves the water …

add a stick, and this boy is in his element.

then there’s rescue-boy Murphy…

Murphy is almost completely blind but still manages to get around very well …

did i mention how much Gilmour loves his beach?

after some shooting at the cottage, we headed to a different beach … and the colours were glorious …

with lots of running …

and just because his vision is failing, don’t count Murphy out of some running games on the beach!

of course, sticks are always an integral component to any fun afternoon on the beach with a wet dog …

from the beach, we headed to the woods.  just check out the brotherly love …

grrrr ….

and that Gilmour sure knows how to have fun with mud …

thanks, Gilmour and Murphy for a memorable shoot.

shadow’s scruffy session ~ {Toronto, Ontario pet photographer}

if you follow the scruffy dog facebook page, you’ll have already seen several sneak peeks of Shadow, the ever-smiling golden …

i know i’m not the only one thinking: “Squirrel?!”

we had a lot of fun at our session, driving around and finding different locations in which to shoot this lovely boy … from parks, and Unionville station …

mom, Betty, was after a photo of her boy in a very natural setting like a field.  alas, those can be hard to find in Toronto, but how about this?

as the sun was setting, i spotted these long grasses behind a restaurant in some plaza just off the highway …

and some fun in Shadow’s backyard …

and his favorite park.

my favorite images from the shoot were taken at the tracks in Unionville …

of course, it was all going great until a wedding photographer and her entrouage elbowed their way onto our location, with no regard for our shoot …

so, we moved on.

we even found a not-quite-ripe soybean field to romp in …

thanks so much for being such a happy boy, Shadow.

a pack o’ spoos ~ {Waterloo, Ontario pet photographer}

you’ve seen their sneak peeks on the scruffy dog facebook page, but it’s high time we show you all a few more images from the shoot we had a few weeks ago with the pack of standard poodles belonging to Jennifer who owns Pet Pawzazz Grooming Spa here in town.  we had such a great time out in the woods …

this pack of four girls is actually four generations.  Paris is the great grandmother …

then there’s her daughter Memphis …

and Memphis is the mother to Cheeky …

and finally, there’s Cheeky’s daughter, Cocoanut …

… also known as the orangutan.

we had a lot of fun in the woods … lots of running …

lots of leaf-catching …

loads of crazy jumping …

and of course, there were balls …

and lots of spoodle’tude.

of course, great-grandma Paris was the best poser …

and so stunning with her cords …

thanks for letting me capture your pack’s spirit, Jenn.  … an extremely memorable afternoon indeed.

looking forward to seeing you guys at your consult tomorrow.
